Adwoa Safo’s Absence ‘Worrying’… - Osei Kyei Mensah

The Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah, says a scheduled meeting between the New Patriotic Party (NPP's) Council of Elders and Dome-Kwabenya MP, Adwoa Safo is a ‘right move’.

To him, Adwoa Safo’s continued absence in parliament is ‘worrying’ and an issue that must be urgently addressed by the party.

Peacefmonline.com is reliably informed that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) will meet to decide what actions to take against Adwoa Safo, who took a long leave from her duties as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

The absence of the Dome-Kwabenya MP has raised concerns among the rank-and-file of the party; with some even calling for her dismissal.

Sabotage!!! Just Sack Her

The NPP MP for New Juaben South constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr Michael Okyere Baafi, had earlier accused Adwoa Safo of sabotaging the ruling administration.

"136 of us; the NPP MPs go to Parliament except for one person, Adwoa Safo . . . when you ask the leaders they refuse to give straight answers. We don’t know where Adwoa Safo is . . . she doesn’t come to parliament and it’s worrying . . . clearly her behaviour shows she wants to sabotage NPP; I’m speaking on authority . . . she’s to be blamed for all our problems. If you’re sick, you don’t have to blackmail the party. We need to call a spade a spade . . . " he said during an interview with Kumasi-based Hello FM.

While Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong considers the lawmaker’s conduct as tantamount to holding the current administration to ransom,
Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, Ben Ephson, wants President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack Sarah Adwoa Safo, since her continuous absence in Parliament at a time when a hung parliament situation requires the presence of every member, poses a threat to government business.

Commenting on the issue of the MP's absence in Parliament, the Majority Leader in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, said; “the Council of Elders are part of the party so if there is something going on in and they feel there is a need for them to address it, I think it’s in the right direction.”

Madam Adwoa Safo has been away from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministry as well, after President Akufo-Addo directed the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, to temporarily serve as caretaker Minister in October 2021.
