NDC Drowning In Volta Region

THE NEW Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Avenor-Ave constituency in the Volta Region, Leo-Nelson Adzidogah, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is losing its stronghold in the region because of the current economic hardship Ghanaians are facing. He said a lot of NDC members in the Volta Region had secretly defected to the NPP after assessing the two major political parties in the country and concluding that the NDC would definitely lose the 2012 general elections. Leo-Nelson, as the aspiring Member of Parliament is popular called, made these remarks in an interview with Daily Guide in Takoradi yesterday. I pledge to unify all the people around a common agenda for the good of the constituency and make the NPP a party of choice in the constituency, he said. He alleged that since 1992, the sitting MP, Hon. Doe Adjaho, had not made any conscious effort to give hope and direction to the constituents, in that he (Adjaho) had no vision and plan to develop the area. The people are now wide awake because Adjaho does not share the social problems the people encounter daily. His overriding interest is to canvass for votes during elections by deceiving them, after which he leaves them in the lurch, he intimated. He expressed disappointment in the MP for his inability to mobilize support to help develop the constituency, and disclosed that apart from the Tema-Akatsi highway, there was not a single tarred road in the constituency. According to Leo-Nelson, there was the urgent need to establish a think tank comprising prominent citizens home and abroad, to map out strategies to harness the potentials of the area for accelerated growth of the constituency. We of the NPP, in consultation with the stakeholders, will come out with a development blue-print to address the socio-economic needs of the constituency which include education, health facilities, portable water and infrastructural development, he added. He suggested that the Avenor-Ave constituency should be run like a corporate entity, where the individuals would be encouraged and assisted to engage in income earning ventures for wealth creation for a better standard of living. He said if voted as the next MP in the 2012 parliamentary slot, he would avoid politics of divide and rule, hatred and intimidation, and rather promote peace, unity and a sense of belonging among the people.
