Jamestown Daylight Bullion Van Robbery: I Suspect An Insider Tipped Off Armed Robbers - Kwesi Pratt

Seasoned Journalist, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. says he smells something fishy with the armed robbery incident that occured at Jamestown yesterday.

A Policeman and a hawker were reportedly shot dead by some armed robbers when they attacked a bulliion van at the locality.

The driver of the van sustained serious gunshot wounds and rushed to the hospital for medical treatment whereas two women, who were inside the bullion van during the robbery, escaped unhurt.

Following the incident, the Accra Regional Police Command blocked all major roads in the metropolis and peripheral roads and some Police personnel were also deployed to man checkpoints in pursuit of the robbers.

"This is the first-ever in Ghana for such a grand security operation to be carried out. We are pursuing a grand operation as we look out for the perpetrators of this heinous crime. We are also looking out for the booty," the Accra Regional Police Operations Unit, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kwesi Ofori said.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Kwesi Pratt noted that the operation might have been orchestrated with the help of an insider.

He wondered how the robbers got information on the routes that the bullion van was taking and therefore trail behind it to carry out such heinous crime.

''We all suspect there is an insider in this operation but it's a suspicion. The Police is investigating and will find out the truth," he stated.

To him, there are more questions to ask because things don't add up about the robbery.

"We don't know how much money they robbed but I think the money is huge because nobody will plan such an operation only to steal something like GHC 2,000 or 3,000. When you assess the operation, they knew the amount in the van and they knew the money in the van was huge.

"With these robbers, the question I want to ask is how did they know the van will take off at such period and that they should cross it at that particular period? How did they also know the amount in the van? Because if they don't know the sum of money in the van, they won't undertake such operation. So, what they saw for them to do this attack, where did it come from?," he questioned.
