Bernard Allotey Jacobs has bemoaned the culture where opposition parties oppose everything a government does, particularly when it is good and in the interest of the nation.

He wondered why opposition parties must commit themselves to seeing nothing right with the initiatives and policies of a government.

To him, so far as this culture continues, there will be no advancement in the nation.

He said this while discussing illegal mining menace on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'' on Wednesday.

Allotey Jacobs, although not mentioning a specific opposition party, sounded more like he was talking to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as he slammed them for criticizing the President in his fight against galamsey.

The President has committed himself to clamp down on illegal mining, otherwise called galamsey, with the aim to protect the country's lands, forest and waterbodies from pollution.

Illegal mining activities have contaminated the waterbodies and ruined communities.

President Nana Addo says he is not retreating from the fight but rather is fully committed to finding lasting solutions to the problem.

To Allotey Jacobs, "there will never be consensus in this country" should the political parties oppose what a government, in this sense, the Akufo-Addo government is doing to stop galamsey.

"It means we are dividing Ghana into two depending upon the party in power and how it will mobilize itself to win the next elections because you will never get any support from the other party. Where are we going as a nation?"

"Are we building a prosperous country? Are we moving Ghana forward?" he questioned.

Allotey advised all the parties to rally behind the President and help him achieve his goal.

He called for a collective effort to curb the menace.
