The sterling performance put up by the ruling New Patriotic Party in the northern sector of the country has been attributed largely to the successful implementation of the government's flagship Planting for Food and Jobs programme. 

The NPP, per the results coming through from this year's elections,  appears to have done extremely well in the northern sector of the country,  particularly in the Northern,  North, and the Savannah regions.

In the newly created Savanna region, for example,  the ruling party managed to secure 4 out of the 7 Parliamentary seats whilst also making significant gains in the North East Region by winning notable seats such as Yagaba Kubori,  Gushegu, Karaga amongst others. 

Even before comprehensive analysis are done to unravel the rationale behind this feat, many commentators have attributed this feat to the fact that the lives of voters in these areas,  whose main source of livelihood is farming, have been significantly improved through the flagship Planting for Food and Jobs programme. 

Similar reasons have also been sighted for the amazing results secured by the ruling party in the Ahafo Region where the NPP secured all the 6 parliamentary seats.

In the run-up to the elections,  there were clear indications that one of the major policies in the education sector, the Free SHS policy was going to be the deciding factor.

However, it turns out that the flagship Planting for Food and Jobs initiative may have contributed immensely to the NPP success story in the northern and Ahafo regions
