Don't Be A "Pawn" For Anybody To Use You As Instrument Of Terror On Dec 7 - Sammi Awuku Tells Ghanaians

Sammi Awuku, the National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party, has cautioned Ghanaians not to allow themselves to be used as ''pawns'' by political figures during the general elections on Monday, December 7.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', Sammi Awuku stated that security of the elections is the sole responsibility of the security agencies.

He advised the electorates to be vigilant at the polling stations and report suspicious activities to the Police.

"Don't be a pawn in the hands of anybody to use you as an instrument of terror on the day of election . . . The Police are the ones to provide security. As an electorate, yours is to maintain vigilance when voting. When you see a suspicious activity, draw the attention of the security capos," he said.

The Inspector-General of Police, in an interview on "Kokrokoo", assured the public of their readiness to clamp down on electoral violence.

"Providing security for the elections is the responsibility of the security agencies. So, we don't expect any other person will go to the polling stations that he or she is there to secure the elections. We don't need party security at the polling station. Every party has its observers and polling agents and they're the only people we recognize as agents that the law permits them to come to the polling stations.

"No one else is allowed. When you finish voting, go home and you can return when the counting of the ballots commences. But for you to be at the polling station to impede the security personnel, that will be obstructing the duties of the Police and the other security agencies, and that in itself is an offence that we can arrest and prosecute you in the court," he said.

17,027,655 voters are expected to cast their ballot across 33,367 polling stations on the election day.
