Dedo Vows To Unseat Teye Nyaunu

The 2012 New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Lower Manya, Dedo Diffie Kusi Agyarko says she stands the best chance of winning the Lower Manya Parliamentary seat for the party. She is also promising the party she will be the first person to win the NPP a seat in any of the seven Dangme-speaking Constituencies. Madam Dedo was the NPP candidate in the 2004 election, polling over 15,000 votes then, as against the incumbent MP, Michael Teye Nyaunus 18,000. This result is the closest the NPP came to winning a seat in Krobo. The NDC, then in opposition, had claimed she was not fully Krobo, a claim she says largely accounted for her defeat. But she has told Joy News that the people of Lower Manya have now realized the failure of the incumbent MP, Michael Teye Nyaunu and have therefore invited her to come and stand again. And she said it wont be too difficult for her to win the seat. Pushing a vote from 9,000 to almost 16,000 is no mean feat. Unfortunately, that was not enough to win the vote. So I am coming back and this time I am taking the seat. This time I dont even see a contest, she told Joy News Benjamin Tetteh. She added; I think I am pretty popular in the area and I was basically pulled to come back and take the seat, this time, she added. The ruling NDC has been winning the Krobo seats since 1992. This is Michael Nyaunus fourth term in office. But the NPP candidate says the NDC has failed the people of Krobo, and this time, they will vote Nyaunu out of parliament. I think the NDC has been in that area for long enough for the people to realize that the NDC will never do anything for them, especially now it looks to me that the NDC is spoiling its own game in the constituency, in apparent reference to Michael Nyaunus utterances against President John Evans Atta-Mills. With what is happening in the NDC, Im not even sure he will be able to come back. So the NPP does have a good chance, she concluded.
