The Asunafo South District Assembly has been sued by an assembly member due to the incessant violence that has plagued the elections to confirm the new District Chief Executive of the area.
Abdulai Donkor, one of the 16 assembly members in the district who have suffered a series of attacks during two consecutive abortive elections to endorse the President�s nominee, Atta Bosompim, has hauled the assembly before a Sunyani High, placing an injunction on the election scheduled to have taken place yesterday.
The injunction writ was served on the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, the Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, the Asunafo South District Assembly and the DCE nominee.
To vote or not to vote will be determined by the court today.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Director of the EC, George Gyabaah, confirmed to Daily Guide that the election to confirm the DCE was cancelled following the court writ.
He said an appropriate date would be fixed after the court ruling today.
Daily Guide also learnt that the court bailiff, who attempted presenting the court order to the District Coordinating Director at Kukuom, was attacked in the process by some NDC thugs who became fumed about the turn of events.
Abdulai Donkor told Daily Guide that he took the decision to save the lives of his 15 colleagues who had come under attack in their attempt to exercise their franchise at the assembly. He said the move would help to ensure law and order at the assembly where machoism had become the order of the day.
Justice Kwaku Boampong, the assemblyman for Kwapong New Town, said the court injunction would help to streamline things at the assembly. He said the leadership of the assembly failed to sympathize with them when 16 of them were attacked on two occasions by macho men.
It will be recalled that some assembly members in the district were mercilessly beaten up by some macho men who were believed to have been hired by some NDC officials in the area during an election to elect a Presiding Member of the assembly. Four of them were hospitalized, while one remained unconscious for several days.
A week later, during a similar election to endorse the DCE of the area, over 50 macho men prevented some 16 members of the assembly, who are suspected to be sympathizers of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), from entering the hall to participate in the election.
