2020 Elections: Engage In Wise Campaigns; Not Insults! - Opanyin Agyekum Tells NPP & NDC

Dean of the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, Professor Kofi Agyekum, popularly known as Opanyin Agyekum has asked all political parties, particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) to embark on decent campaign this year.

The NPP and NDC are said to be the main contenders in this year's elections, although there are others like the Convention People's Party (CPP), People's National Convention (PNC), Ghana Union Movement (GUM) which will be in the contest as well.

The Electoral Commission (EC) is yet to open nominations for the political parties to file and enter the Presidential and Parliamentary race.

This year's elections have been interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic as the usual campaign rallies will no longer be a practice, however the NPP has specifically announced they will conduct door-to-door, house-to-house campaigns.

Making his submissions on 'Kokrokoo' on Peace FM, Opanyin Agyekum bemoaned the indiscipline that characterizes political campaigns whenever the nation is in the electioneering year.

He advised against badmouthing each other stressing words are irreversible.

Opanyin Agyekum urged the parties to "engage in a wise campaign devoid of insults because you can't crown youself as the Chief of insults . . . they should conduct truthful campaigns because they will account for what they say".
