If Mills Wins The Rawlingses Would Be 'Stripped Naked' - Boakye Gyan

The former spokesperson of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC), Major Boakye Gyan (retired) has stated categorically that if President Mills wins the upcoming Sunyani congress of the ruling NDC, the Rawlingses would be stripped politically naked and would be left with no choice than to either float another political party or stay in the NDC and mastermind the party's defeat in the 2012 elections. According to him, the National Democratic Congress as a party would never be the same after its July congress as a result of the deep divisions within the party. It would be another watershed in the progress of Ghana as a nation because NDC would never emerge the same after the election that is a fact. Anytime for some time there has been attrition, anytime there is an election, the losing out group leaves and forms another party. It happened with Goosie Tanoh and others, and then Obed Asamoah left. If Rawlings loses my projection is that they would be tempted to float another party. They (Rawlingses) are complaining of losing control of the executive and then they move quickly and take control of the second tier of control of the NDC as a party. The wife was a Vice Chair and Kofi Adams as a deputy general secretary. With her entry into the competition she had to leave her position and I am not sure that if she loses Kofi Adams would be able to hang in there, so they would then have lost two levels of power the executive and the party structure, so where does leave them, naked, politically in terms of power. If they find themselves naked then they would then have to run for cover. Major Boakye Gyan said the greatest beneficiaries of the current power struggle within the ruling NDC will be the greater Nkrumaist movement. Major Boakye said however the outcome of the NDC congress, there would be an opportunity for the revival of the great Nkrumaist family to become a third force in Ghanas politics. The greater Nkrumaist political family are fragmented at the moment so what the Nkrumaist front need to come together is the centre of gravity. And I sincerely believe that that centre of gravity could only come from NDC either under victorious Mills who can now with confidence launch for an Nkrumaist revivalism when Rawlings and the wife have been marginalised. But if he (Mills) is defeated, he still would be an incumbent President; he would then use the remaining two years to reconstruct the Nkrumaist political family and when they come in, then Ghana would be ready for a tripartite competition for power and then we can move gradually away from this nonsense of ethnicity, world bank and so on. Major Boakye Gyan commended President Mills for the calm nature shown despite incessant pressure and criticisms from the Rawlingses.
