Konadu Can Possibly Beat Mills If Spio Doesn't Run Ben Ephson

Pollster and election watcher, Ben Ephson says Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has a better chance of beating President Mills at the NDCs presidential primaries only if Dr. Spio-Garbrah steps down and supports her. Everybody knows that Nana Konadu and Dr. Spio-Garbrah belong to the Rawlings faction. If the two persons contest - yes they are independent people in their own right - they will be splitting the Rawlings basket of votes in the NDC. So to make it meaningful and more intense, one of them will have to step down for the other, Mr Ephson explained. Speaking on Joy FM on Wednesday, Mr Ephson said Mrs Rawlings and Dr. Spio-Garbrahs nominations do not offer any realistic opportunities for either of them and that if one steps down, they have a good chance of beating the President. One thing which I will be very surprised [about] will be if by June 1, both Nana Konadu and Dr. Spio-Garbrah file their nominations I belong to the school of thought that the NDC [has] two factions now - The Rawlings faction and the Atta Mills faction, he said, adding I will not be surprised if Spio-Garbrah steps down for Nana Konadu [because] looking into the future, 2016 will be his (Spio's) turn, and he will want Konadu's supporters to reciprocate his kind gesture. The Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper believes that if the former First Lady should lose the primaries or even the national elections, she is not likely to make a second attempt. Dr Spio-Garbrah, in his opinion, should therefore like to put himself in poll position to court the support of Mrs Rawlings' supporters in 2016. Dr. Spio-Garbrah on Tuesday, launched his campaign for the flagbearship slot of the NDC. He sought the blessing of former President Jerry Rawlings who used the opportunity to accuse President Mills of employing clandestine tactics to win the upcoming primaries.
