The Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has disagreed with Ghanaians who are calling for schools to be shut down.

Some Senior High Schools have started recording cases of COVID-19 generating fear among parents and guardians.

The parents and other stakeholders have started calling on the government to shut the schools for the students who are preparing to write their final year exams to return home.

However, Napo in an interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo' said there's no need to close down the schools because most of the students got infected from home and not the school. Apart from that there are mechanisms to take care of them should anyone get infected.

"Close down the schools till when?" he asked.

Over 90% of staff test positive

The Minister, popularly known as Napo who tested positive to COVID-19 and shared his experience after being discharged added that over 90 percent of staff at his ministry have tested positive to the virus and are recovering.

"After my second result come out positive, testing was conducted on all the staff majority were positive; out of 50, about 45 has contracted the virus. Most of them have mild symptoms and are isolating at home," he added.
