COVID-19 Test To Be Mandatory For Work/Residence Permits - GIS

Immigrants seeking permits to reside or work in Ghana will from Monday, June 15, 2020, be tested for Coronavirus as part of the Ghana Immigration Service's enhanced mandatory medical examination.

A public notice by the GIS said the test is an add-on to already existing medical examination conducted by the Service as part of requirements for acquiring work and residence permits by foreign nationals.

"The exercise which is to ensure health security will include testing for COVID-19 and cover other permits such as Indefinite Residence, Right of Abode and Naturalization, as well as renewal of other Residence permits," the notice stated.

The Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Superintendent Michael Amoako-Atta told Graphic Online that the enhanced medical examinations follow the outbreak of the Coronavirus in the country.

He said medical examinations conducted by the GIS are confidential and include tests for communicable diseases, X-Rays and blood tests.

The tests will be conducted at the GIS Clinic, located at the National Headquarters in Accra.
