COVID-19: Restrict Movements At Hotspots To Curtail Spread – MP Urges Govt

Dr Robert Baba Kuganab-Lem, Member of Parliament for Binduri Constituency has joined calls urging the government to restrict movement at the hotspots of the COVID-19.

"Let’s restrict movement in the hotspots areas and with that, we can control the movement of the virus," he said.

Ghana's COVID-19 case count stands at 5735 with 1754 recoveries and 29 deaths.

In the Ashanti Region, Obuasi is the hottest spot and in the Greater Accra Region Tema remains the hottest spot.

Dr. Kuganab-Lem, who doubles as the Member of the Health Committee in Parliament speaking in an interview on UTV's Critical Issues said: "We can do some level of restrictions of movement; we may not have to use the word lockdown because that word has become something else. Now we know the areas where numbers are increasing so we can restrict movement. The word lockdown has been misused

Contract Tracing

Enhanced contact tracing and testing is still ongoing in Ghana and this according to government has resulted in the increased number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

However, the Binduri MP says effective contact tracing cannot be done unless there is a restriction of movement.

"Ghanaians are so mobile so you cannot do effective contact tracing unless you restrict movement. Restrict movements of people in the hotspots. Contact tracing is difficult and laborious and you know our society…let’s do more," Hon Baba Kuganab-Lem stated.

Not enough

The MP is however, not satisfied with government’s efforts in fighting the virus so far. According to him, “if it were enough the numbers would not have been increasing".
