District Assembly Elections: "Don't Let Others Choose For You!" - Prez Akufo-Addo

The President HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has appealed to Ghanaians to go out in their numbers and cast their vote in the ongoing district assembly elections.

According to him, this is a national exercise and it is only proper that Ghanaians will come out and exercise their franchise.

Speaking exclusively on Okay Fm's "Ade Akye Abia" program, when he went to cast his vote at Kyebi, he reiterated that the exercise forms part of the country's democratic dispensation and that eligible Ghanaians should step out in their numbers and cast their vote.

"Voting gives you the right and choice to select your preferred assembly member or unit committee member. Don't let others choose for you", he added.

Voting is on-going throughout the country to elect District Assembly and Unit Committee Members.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has said some 57,000 candidates have registered to contest the polls. Out of the figure, 18,519 are vying to become assembly members, while 38,520 want to be in the Unit Committee members.

There are a total of 6,700 electoral areas and each electoral area would be represented by one assembly member.

Police say they have deployed some 48,000 personnel to ensure a smooth run of today’s exercise.

Voting officially starts at 7:00 am and closes at 5:00 pm.
