Justice Delayed Is Justice Denied - Family of Slain Prampram Mankralo

Family of the slain Prampram Mankralo, Nene Atsure Benta III says one year after the death of the chief, the perpetrators are still yet to be prosecuted.

According to them, though a few arrests were made in the wake of the news of the death, all the persons arrested have been granted bail while the family has been left in despair.

Daughter of the late Caretaker, Dorinda Amankwa-Boateng told the press at a gathering to mark one year of the death of Nene Atsure Benta III that neither the Prampram Traditional Council nor the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs from where he was returning after a meeting have come to commiserate with the family, one year since the death of their father.

The late Mankralo of Prampram in the Greater Accra Region, Nene Atsure Benta III, was shot dead by unknown gunmen on 13th December, 2018 at Dodowa in the Shai Osudoku District.

The incident happened on Thursday afternoon when he was returning to Prampram from a meeting at the Dodowa House of Chiefs.

Though it is unclear what might have led to the shooting, TV Africa News has gathered that it might be linked to some chieftaincy issues at Prampram. Hours before the death of the Manklalo, however a man who claims to be the stool father to the Mankralo, Nii Nartey IV, together with some elders of the Prampram Mankralo stool, held a press conference at Ashaiman where they leveled some allegations against the deceased.

According to Nii Nartey who addressed the media, the deceased, Nene Atsure Benta, for some time then had failed to perform the necessary rites and functions required of him as a Mankralo coupled with total disrespect towards him, Nii Nartey, as the stool father.

Nete Atsure Benta II was however killed the next day when he was returning from a meeting at the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs. Nii Nartey IV and a few others were subsequently arrested but have since been granted bail.

A recent arrest by the Police in Tema in connection with the murder is also yet to lead to any headway, according to the family. Mrs. Dorinda Amankwa-Boateng told pressmen that their lives are in danger as the perpetrators are walking freely in the town and are still going ahead to perpetrate other illegalities.

The family further dissociated itself from a recent installation of a Mankralo to succeed Nene Atsure Benta.

They however pointed accusing fingers at former Member of Parliament for the town, E.T. Mensah for fueling that illegal installation.
