Our Strike Continues Unabated Until Government Settles All Salary Arrears – TUTAG

Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) says they will never return to the classroom until the government settles all their salary arrears.

According to them, the government has taken them for granted for far too long and it is about time they bare teeth at them to honour their part of the bargain.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, the President of TUTAG, Dr Solomon Keelson explained that they have had series of meetings with the government about their salary issues all to no avail.

"It is as a result of this that we have embarked on this long-standing strike. We are meeting with the government though our position remains unchanged," he said.

He said all the Association want to hear from the government is that it is releasing money for payment before they will decide to return to the classroom.

He added that until that is done, nothing will force them to return to the classroom.

"We believe that the government has deliberately refused to listen to our cry and honour their part of the obligation in paying our salary arrears up front, and the only way we can have our monies paid to us is to embark on this strike," he added.

TUTAG’s industrial action follows the Controller and Accountant General’s Department’s failure to pay emoluments due them with effect from 1st August 2019 despite a directive from the Ministry of Finance.
