'Kum Yen Preko' Demo: It Was Meant For Some People To Get Food To Eat - Effah Dartey

A leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Capt (rtd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey has rubbished the basis for which the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other pressure groups embarked on the 'Kum Yen Preko' demonstration.

According to him, the issues of assault on journalists, Menzgold customers and the collapse of Dr. Kwesi Nduom’s business which the NDC based on to embark on the 'Kum Yen Preko' demonstration are non-starters.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the former NPP Presidential aspirant said Ghanaians can attest to the fact that the issue of assaults on journalists is not often recorded in the country, especially under the watch of President Akufo-Addo.

“For me, all the basis for the demonstration by the NDC are neither here nor there. Be honest with Ghanaians, how many journalists have been assaulted? By who? by soldiers, Police or by government officials? How many? Is it on a daily occurrence or one in the blue moon or once in a week?” he quizzed.

He reiterated that it is unacceptable on the part of Ghanaians to blame the Akufo-Addo government for putting their monies in Menzgold when the government had warned that Menzgold is not operating within the strict law.

“Secondly, the Menzgold issue; I am a lawyer for some of the Menzgold clients. Did the government say that you should put your money at Menzgold? So if you have taken your personal decision that you want to invest in Menzgold and then government said that Menzgold should operate within the strict law and so if they are doing that and they are being investigated, then you raise a red flag that government has collapsed your business”, he argued.

He again argued that the businesses of Papa Kwesi Nduom would not have collapsed if he had operated within the banking law; thus, “if you are not operating according to the law and your customers are suffering, is that the problem of Nana Addo and his ministers? I don’t understand.

He, however, was of the view that there can never be “Kum Yen Preko” when President Akufo-Addo is running the country so well; slamming that the demonstration was for some of the people to get food to eat.

“Who is killing you? This demonstration is for some of the people to get food to eat. When Nana Addo came into power, the way we are running the country, if you are serious about working now, using your brains to working for money into your pocket, you will get a lot of money”, he stated.

He maintained that the economy is booming under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as it has created a lot of opportunities in the country people seriously looking for money into their pockets.

“The economy is booming; the opportunities are there but if you want to go after ministers for contracts and bribe your way for contracts, then you will go on demonstration and nobody will mind you”, he claimed.

He stressed that Ghanaians have never had it so good under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration; thus everything is going on well in this country including the laws governing the nation.
