New Chamber Block: It Is Very Very Unpopular…Let's Drop It – Nana B

The National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye aka Nana B has described a decision of Ghana’s Parliament’s to build a new 450-seter chamber as unpopular.

According to him, it is important to hold on with the idea because Majority of Ghanaian’s are not comfortable with their decision. A design for the new edifice was unveiled by the Speaker, Mike Ocquaye during a courtesy call on him by the architect David Adjaye on Friday.

Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu in explaining the reason for the new edifice said the space in the current chamber no longer meets the purposes of the House.

“Even now, we have more than 60 non-MP ministers and Deputy ministers. On occasions that they are required to be in the chamber...even sometimes DCEs may be required to be in the chamber to be witnesses for one thing or the other, so we would have to provide adequate space. “But now, when all members are in the chamber and ministers appear, some have to stand which is not the best so it is the reason for the new edifice,” he said.

But Nana B reacting on Thursday’s edition of Peace FM's morning Show 'Kokrokoo' appealed to Parliament to hold on with their decision because the idea is very unpopular.

“As a youth leader I always test the pulse of the masses in so many ways and the truth is that this idea is very very unpopular…we should all understand that Ghanaians are more descending so it’s not everything that we accept… It is a very unpopular decision and I think it must be dropped,” he added,
