Stop Worrying MPs With Unrealistic Financial Demands – A.B.A Fuseini Tells Constituents

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sagnarigu constituency in the Northern Region, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini has advised his constituents and  other constituents to stop burdening MPs with their financial pressures for their earnings cannot cater for everybody.

According to him, MPs are not able to make proper savings because constituents expect them to cater for their responsibilities whether they are capable or not.

The outspoken lawmaker said MPs are expected not only to give monies to constituents when their businesses collapse but to offer support during funerals, weddings and provision of sand for the building of their houses.

In an interview with Joy F, he pointed out that ‘MPs are burdened with all these responsibilities and in the face of it how much is MPs earnings’.

He described as wrong public perception that Members of Parliament (MPs) are rich and can fall on for financial support.

The MP for Sagnarigu constituency observed that some of the MPs run into huge debts due to the pressures from their constituents.

He refused to say if some of his colleagues both current and former have developed some sickness due to the pressures on them.

‘Our politics is increasingly monetized, to the point that the pressure is on the MPs to provide anything. I’m telling you as we speak, MPs are supposed to be building houses for people in some constituents, they will ask you for cement, roofing sheets, wood, they will ask you for even sand,  in addition to school fees, funerals, weddings, personal problems, just mention it. MPs are burdened with all these responsibilities and in the face of it how much is MPs earnings,’ he bemoaned.

According to him, majority of his colleagues have become destitute after leaving Parliament saying apart from ex-gratia they don’t have any retirement packages.
