Government Committed To Making Democracy Work For All -Deputy Info Minister

Nana Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, a Deputy Minister of Information, has said the decentralisation of the national policy summit on regional basis demonstrated government’s commitment to deepening democracy.

She noted that the summit, like other flagship programmes, formed an integral part of the Ministry's strategic objective of ensuring responsive governance and citizen participation in the development dialogue.

It is also to improve participation of civil society including the media, traditional authorities, religious bodies in national development.

The Deputy Minister, made the remarks at the sixth National Policy Summit, which started on Sunday in Cape Coast with focus on fisheries and sanitation sectors.

The two-day event, held quarterly provides a platform to explain government policies, plans and activities to the citizenry as well as collect feedback for policy formulation and implementation.

It is being organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Information on the theme: "Meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SGGs): Emphasis on Fisheries and Sanitation”.

Nana Asiamah-Adjei said summit among others seeks to ensure that good governance, accountability and transparency, which were the fulcrum of democracy became entrenched, deepened and remained unparalleled to enable all and sundry to contribute effectively and meaningfully to the processes of nation building.

Government will not rest but re-double its series of public engagements with the citizenry in the Regions as part of the core vision to bring governance and development to the door-steps of the ordinary person.

She reassured that government would continue to adopt pragmatic programmes and well thought out policies that cut across political and ethnic persuasions to ensure that all resources were pulled together to ensure accelerated national development.

Nana Asiamah-Adjei called on stakeholders in the democratic dispensation to work closely with Government to attain democratic credentials that will be exemplary to nations.

Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Omanhene of the Essikado Traditional Area, stressed the urgent need for government to provide sanitation tools, equipment and logistics to tackle the menace.

He also called for harmonisation of administrative structures and advocated for strong collaboration with research and implementation of research findings.
