Parliament Confirms Nomination of Ama Kumi-Richardson As Bono East Regional Minister

Parliament has a conducted secret ballot to confirm the nomination of Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson as Minister for the newly created Bono East region.

This follows the presentation to Parliament the 22nd report of the Appointments Committee on the nominee of which the Committee has recommended the approval of the nominee for the appointment.

The Minority in Parliament has opposed the approval of Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson's nomination as a result of unsatisfactory answers she gave to the Appointments Committee of Parliament on a number of issues.

The Majority Leader, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said reasons given by the Minority caucus for opposing the approval of Hon Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson's nomination are not convincing.

However, she managed to pull through with a total of 124 out of 210 votes cast in the house.

Out of the total votes cast 85 voted NO and 1 ballot got spoilt. She has been approved by the house.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament earlier withheld Mrs. Kumi-Richardson’s approval because her nomination was under consideration.

MPs raised questions about the academic qualifications of Mrs. Kumi-Richardson who is currently MCE for Sunyani.

Her human relations, some travels she undertook as MCE were some of the issues that the Minority raised during her appearance before the committee.

The Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu insisted that the Evelyn Kumi-Richardson must provide further information on audit queries and land issues under her purview as Sunyani MCE.

“The onus is not on us as the appointments committee. The onus is on her to provide further and better particulars to answers on questions on an audit query and matters related to land.”

Mrs. Kumi-Richardson was one of four nominees vetted in the second batch by the Appointments Committee.
