PPA Saves Close To Ghc2 Billion For Ghana’s Economy Within 21 Months-CEO Reveals

The Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei has revealed that the Authority through its purpose driven initiatives introduced in 2017 to enhance value addition to its operations has made savings to the tune of Ghc1.9 billion to the Ghanaian economy within 21 months.

He added literally that this amount of money has been freed to finance other areas of the economy after engaging in price reasonableness and value for money in every transaction of the government.

He stressed that the initiative has contributed significantly to enhance credibility in its operations leading to the ultimate realization of significant savings for the country

“Today, I am pleased to announce to you that the PPA as a result of the introduction of these initiatives has in the space of 21 months (Between April, 2017 to December 2018) made savings to the tune of 1.9 Billion Ghana Cedis to the Ghanaian economy which literally means that, this amount of money has been freed to finance other areas of the economy”, he revealed.

Addressing the media in the ‘Meet-The-Press’ series at the Ministry of Information Conference Hall, Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei mentioned that PPA was able to help the country to save Ghc800 million in all the things the government purchased in 2017.

He reiterated that such an amount will have been part of the things the government purchased and if Public Procurement Authority had not initiated such a strategy; meaning that “we would have used another money to buy another thing we may need”.

“We didn’t relent on our effort after saving such an amount in 2017, but rather we continued in 2018 with the same value for money and price reasonableness to save more money for the country and indeed we managed to save yet again Ghc1.164 billion”, he stressed.

He however assured that the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) will intensify its effort to bring much more savings for the nation as the exercise will continue and not stop at this point.

“We have started the same procedure and process of purchases in 2019; we will compile our savings for the first quarter end of March and we will meet the media to share the news with you and demonstrate that we mean business and not just a nine day wonder”, he stated.

Walking the media through the activities of the Authority, he said “we engaged in price reasonableness and value for money in every transactions of the government and so the money which is saved through this initiative remained in the entity without going to waste and that reserved will be used to address other pressing issue in the entity”.

He added that Public Procurement Authority (PPA) has also established a Special Procurement Investigation Unit to conduct random investigations into the procurement activities of Entities in order to address anomalies which may be uncovered.
