'De-Eye' Group Not a Militia Group . . . Mannaseh Did A "Cheap" Work – Group Secretary

Secretary to the 'De-Eye' Group, Madam Tracy Asamoah has denied reports that the group is a militia group been trained for political activities.

According to her, they are a group of young unemployed Ghanaians who are being trained for various jobs in the country.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, she explained that it is not a pro-NPP group who are being trained, but are offered jobs in other institutions as and when there are vacancies.

"Those boys and girls are being trained normally. They can not even handle a gun or any weapon for party activities.

"They are not vigilante groups and that Ghanaians should take note. If this is the kind of the undercover investigative piece Manasseh Azure carried out then I must say it is cheap, this is a cheap work," she stressed.

The group is led by Nana Wireko Addo alias ‘Choman’, the former personal bodyguard of President Nana Akufo-Addo and was described in 2012 as a “vigilante group” in a pro-government newspaper Daily Guide.

One of the leaders of the group, Fraser Owireku Kegya told TV3 in 2018 that the group had a membership of more than 5000 across the country, mainly made up of NPP youth who believed in the policies and governance of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

A Daily Guide report in June 2012 dates the formation of the group as far back as 2009, after the party had lost the 2008 general elections.

The National Security Ministry has attempted to move the group from the Presidency Annex but powerful hands stopped the Ministry.
