Victor Smith ‘Not Interested’ To Be Mahama’s Running Mate

Ghana's former Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Victor Smith who once expressed interest to partner Ex-president John Dramani Mahama as running mate says he is not interested in the position again.

According to him, he is more interested to see the NDC regain power in 2020 – and not to 'chase' positions within the party.

“I don’t go around looking for positions,” he said in an interview on Asempa FM’s 'Ekosii Sen' political program, Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

Mr. Smith however stated that John Mahama is more marketable and has what it takes to clinch victory for the NDC in the next elections.

He added that, the poor economic performance of the ruling New Patriotic Party, (NPP) gives Ghanaians the chance to pick Mahama over President Akufo-Addo come 2020.

When asked by host if ‘Mahama, Victor Smith’ ticket will be solid for the 2020 election – Mr Smith was quick to say “No comment, don’t put me in a tight corner.”

Ambassador Victor Smith is among some key NDC members that have been tipped to partner Ex-President John Dramani Mahama in the 2020 election as running mate.

Others include; Marrietta Appiah-Opong Brew, a former Attorney-General; Kwesi Ahwoi, Ghana’s former Agric Minister and High Commissioner to South Africa; Dr Johnson Asiama, a former Bank of Ghana Deputy Governor; Mr Julius Debrah, a former Minister and the immediate-past Chief of Staff and Hannah S. Tetteh, a former Foreign Minister now U.N top Diplomat, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast and Education Minister under the John Mahama administration.

Dr Kwesi Botchwey who was Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission under Mahama and Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, MP and daughter of Ex-President J.J Rawlings are all favorites for the position.
