‘Bloody Widow’ Placard: "This Is An Absolute Insult To Women" – Kate Gyamfua

Women's Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Madam Kate Gyamfua, has condemned NDC's minority in parliament for the highest level of disdain against the Ayawaso West Wuguon newly elected Parliamentarian, Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan yesterday at parliament.

According to Madam Kate Gyamfua, widowhood is not by choice neither is it a crime to be a widow, but  an inevitable event that can happen to every woman.

In a statement, she expressed disappointment in their misconduct and congratulated Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan on her victory as Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

Read her statement below

Widowhood is not by choice   !
Widowhood is not by chance  !!
Widowhood is not Inevitable!!!
Widowhood makes women and their children prone to numerous injustices and abuses irrespective of age, race, religious beliefs, societal class.....

Every woman is a potential widow.

Ghana as a developing Democratic country who propagates respect for individual rights & freedoms and the respect for rule of Law cannot allow NDC and their cohorts to drag the good image of Ghana to the mud.

Ghanaians, more especially women should assume with highest level of disdain and appalling over the act of NDC minority in Parliament during the swearing in of the newly elected member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon - Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan on Tuesday, 5th February 2019. This is an absolute insult to widows, married women, Spinsters, Ghanaian women and women all over the world.

it is very unacceptable and disrespectful for the NDC  minority MPs to call Honourable Lydia Alhassan as a “Bloody widow”

When did this become a part of our respected culture to openly raise all manner of uncalled names against a woman who suddenly lost her husband leaving behind five young children to her care?

People of Ghana are aware that the house of Parliament is a place of matured minds with deserved experiences and a place where laws are made, which means parliament gives birth to the laws of this country and makes decisions on behalf of the country, hence, the minority MPs ought to be condemned in no uncertain terms by all Ghanaians especially widows and orphans.

I challenge the the Minority in Parliament to show some sign of remorse for their actions and begin to show respect to the widow, the children and the family of the Late Emmanuel Agyarko.

Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan is an independent industrious woman who has been an epitome of hope for
Women of NPP and women in Ghana at large.

We are proud of her achievements and believe she will contribute immensely to the welfare of women and the nation building in Ghana.

From the New Patriotic Party-NPP women across Ghana and beyond, we say a big Congratulations to Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon in Greater Accra.
