The Minority Is A Disgrace To Insensitively Label Maa Lydia A “Bloody Widow”- Andy Owusu

As a Ghanaian I felt so ashamed and disappointed in the conduct of the minority in Parliament during the swearing in of the newly elected MP for Ayawaso West, Hon. Lydia Alhassan.

The NDC on several placards shamelessly labelled Hon. Lydia Alhassan, the wife of their late colleague, Hon. Agyarko, a 'bloody widow'. A distasteful description no one would have wondered the dysfunctional minority could call a widow.

I find it hard to make a meaning in this unpopular scheme by the NDC, because aside Hon. Lydia putting herself up for election, the newly elected MP has not in anyway conducted herself to merit such insensitivity adjective from the Minority in parliament.

It should be noted that, throughout the period of the bye elections, a relatively shallow figure like Sammy Gyamfi on a lot of platforms called a distinguished personality like Hon. Lydia Alhassan a 'Slay Widow'. I thought it could end there, untill the least of it all from the sharply divided and confused Minority.

It's sad that these Minority MPs would leave their wives home and then insensitively label another woman 'Bloody Widow'. This is really below the belt and a condemnable act that will only soil the reputation of the august Ghanaian Parliament. This conduct is abusive, disgusting and despires the poor widow.

Amongst all these Minority MPs, the only who shocked me to my bone was the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Shai Osudoku, Mrs Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo who recently replaced her dead husband in parliament.

You could see her zeal to raise a placard to label a woman in similar fate such an abrasive description. I find her a shame and one of the few insensitive persons who could have been a bit compassionate when the men went over board. Sadly, she followed them all in the name of disgusting manner of politics .

If we can not be kind to a widow, we should not be this ruthlessly inhuman towards the poor widow. It's really sad that if not for anything these unfortunate Minority should have shown some respect to the late Agyarko who is ably represented by his wife.

I will urge the NDC to refrain from such out of date politics and as well render an unqualified apology to Hon. Lydia Alhassan for labelling her as such.

Signed
Andy Owusu,
NPP, Ashanti Region.
