RE: 2016 Defeat: Asiedu Nketia And Co Looted Campaign Funds - Mahama

The attention of the John Mahama 2020 Campaign Team has been drawn to a spurious publication by a fake news website that former President John Dramani Mahama, during his campaign tour of the Central Region on Wednesday, cited the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and others for looting campaign funds.

The publication is false, baseless and unfounded. At no point did Mr Mahama, while addressing NDC members and supporters in Bawjiase or elsewhere on Wednesday, mention or suggest that Mr Asiedu Nketia had inappropriately dealt with campaign funds.

The vile and malicious propaganda published by the supposedly online news portal is desperate attempts by fake news entrepreneurs to not only drive a wedge between the John Mahama Campaign Team and the NDC General Secretary but also to direct undeserved traffic to their fake news portal.

Since the last general election, Mr Mahama has focused his energy and commitment to unifying and helping rebuild the NDC.

We therefore find it unacceptable that a news website will concoct and churn out deliberate falsehood. While urging the general public to disregard and treat the fake news publication with the contempt that it deserves, we are also by this statement demanding a retraction and an unqualified apology, failing which we shall seek redress through legal means.
