Tema-Mpakadan Railway Line To Be Completed March 2020

Minister of Railway Development, Joe Ghartey, has said the Tema-Mpakadan railway line would be completed by March 2020.

He gave the hint when he addressed the media on Wednesday, 16 May 2018 at Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region after paying a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite II.

The visit formed part of the Minister's tour of the region to inspect the progress of the construction of the Tema-Mpakadan line.

According to Mr Ghartey, the youth of Krobo will be engaged in the short-term under the railway development programme for the construction of the rail line.

He said all compensation issues were being considered.

Nene Sakite II expressed satisfaction with government's zeal to revive the railway system in the country.

The chief said infrastructural development such as railway lines were crucial for the economic development of the nation.

He commended President Nana Akufo-Addo for seeing it fit to establish the Railway Development Ministry, and urged the Ministry to focus strongly on developing the sector to facilitate the growth of the economy.

Nene Sakite II, however, appealed to contractors to consider engage locals as labourers for the construction of the rail line.
