Why Is The Media Now Easily Accessible To The NDC? - Ex-Prez Mahama Quizzes

Ex-President John Dramani Mahama has slammed Ghana's media for taking an unbridled interest in the affairs of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and not in the activities of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He wondered why the media has suddenly become "anxious" of the NDC and made the party their attention instead of focusing on the current administration.

Ex-President, speaking to former Ministers and Deputies as well as Presidential Staffers in Accra on Tuesday, March 28, was disappointed in the media because to him before the 2016 elections, they were not interested in the party.

He wondered why all of sudden, "it should be about NDC. Why is the media so anxious to give us so much airtime today? Before the elections, they didn't come chasing you to ask you what you think. All the airtime was going to our opponents. Then all of sudden, now you know as much airtime; the prime time morning shows, they're looking for NDC people and saying what's your comment about what's happening in your party and it's about the NDC today. Why should it be about the NDC?"

Mr. Mahama decided to school the journalists in Ghana, making reference to the Western media with regards to the Trump administration, unlike Ghana's media which takes delight in talking about the opposition NDC.

"The democrats lost, who's talking about the democrats in America? It's about Trump and the new administration. They're collecting the people's taxes. They should be the focus of media attention. Why is the NDC the focus of media attention at this time?" he questioned.

Mr. Mahama somehow believed the media cabal he once referred to is at work again.

"It just shows that there's a certain deviousness to try to make this about the NDC and not about who's in government and how they're fulfilling their promises. And unfortunately, we're falling into the trap".
