Victor Smith Promises New District For Abuakwa North

Ambassador Emmanuel Victor Smith, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region, has pledged to lobby for a new district for the people in the area to help boost development in the constituency.

Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), who was defeated in previous election in the constituency, made the promise at the launch of his campaign at Akyem Tafo last Friday.

He reiterated his commitment to facilitating the development of the constituency if given the nod in the December general elections.

“We are currently under East Akim Municipal Assembly so I am assuring you that I will fight for a new district for the good people of Abuakwa North in order to get the development we deserve,” he told the gathering.

The former MP, JB Danquah-Adu defeated Mr Smith in the previous parliamentary election.

After his brutal murder, Mr Smith bounced back to push the elected NDC candidate Anthony Gyimah out of the race.

Caretaker

Kofi Adams, the National Organiser of NDC, on his part, described the current MP for Abuakwa South Constituency, Mrs Gifty Twum-Ampofo as a caretaker who would lose the seat in December.

According to Mr Adams, the NPP MP is incompetent and unfit to represent the constituents since she cannot meet the needs of the people.

He indicated that the party’s parliamentary candidate, Ambassador Victor Smith, can serve the interests of the people in Parliament.

“Ambassador Smith has already done and is still doing a lot to better the lives of the people in terms of education, transport, water, among others,” he added.

MP Reacts

Meanwhile, the Abuakwa North MP earlier stated that she would retire Victor Smith from active politics in the upcoming polls since he has nothing good to offer the constituents.

According to her, Anthony Gyimah presented a threat to her than Mr Smith, who the National Democratic Congress (NDC) forcibly imposed on the electorate in the constituency.

She added that Dr. Gyimah, who withdrew from the contest under bizarre circumstances, was a credible opponent than Mr Smith.

“As for Victor, I’ll give him compulsory retirement, because he’s no match for me. Gyimah looked unpredictable because he had stayed abroad for so many years and it was difficult to predict what he was bringing onboard.”

According to her, Mr Smith failed to bring any meaningful development to the constituency as regional minister.

Madam Gifty Twum-Ampofo, who was optimistic of retaining the seat for the NPP in the upcoming polls, called on Ghanaians to vote massively for Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo in the upcoming general elections to win and lessen the plight of the citizens.
