The Bolgatanga Municipal Security Committee(MUSEC) has formed an Election Taskforce ahead of the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

The eight- member Taskforce is to monitor and ensure maintenance of peace before, during and after the elections in the East and Central constituencies of the Bolgatanga Municipality.

The election taskforce is made up of security personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Custom Division of Ghana Revenue Authority, Electoral Commission (EC) and the Ghana Immigration Service, in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly.

Mr Philip Aboore, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who inaugurated the taskforce called on the members to work hard to ensure peace in all the 152 polling stations.

Spelling out the responsibilities of the taskforce, the MCE said they are to see to the overall security of the elections, security of ballot boxes, ensure peace at polling stations, smooth settlement of complaints and ensure the arrest and prosecution of election offenders.

Mr Aboore commended the Committee and called for collaboration with the Assembly to ensure a successful election to enable the Municipality to continue to enjoy peace before, during and after the elections

Superintendent Samuel Tibil Punobyin, who is the Chairman of the Committee charged members to put Ghana first and work hard in order not to disappoint Ghanaians.

Mr Oscar Apemah, the Acting Deputy Regional Electoral Commissioner, noted that some people take advantage of the prevailing conflicts to foment trouble and urged the Committee members to take measures to nib such troubles in the bud.

He said polling stations in the Municipality had over the years experienced long queues due to larger voter numbers and so the two polling stations have been split to curb the situation.
