NPP Promises Constituency Fund

NPP promises one constituency one million dollar annual fund.

Even before the dust  on the controversial one small scale dam for every community in northern Ghana settles, the running mate of  Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has promised a ‘’one constituency one  million dollar annual fund’’.

The latest campaign promise  to be added to the ‘’one-district-one  factory of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is ‘’one constituency one  million dollar annual fund’’.

Alhaji Dr Mahamadu Bawumia made the promise when he addressed party supporters at Bunkprugu in the Bunkprugu Constituency in the Northern Region.

The ‘’one million dollar annual fund’’, he said, would be given to every constituency to deal with problems that are specific to them.

He said the one constituency one million dollar fund policy formed part of the party's programme called Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Project (IPEP).

Tour

Nana Akuffo Addo, Alhaji Dr Bawumia and some party stalwarts, including Alan Kyeremanteng, Otiko Djaba, and Nana Konadu Apraku, are in the Northern Region to start a four-day tour.

Some of the areas that will be visited by Nana Akufo-Addo and his team during the four-day tour are Walewale and its adjourning communities in the Mamprugu enclave, the Eastern Corridor areas, Yapei, Damongo, Tamale, Sawla and Daboya.

Policy

Dr Bawumia said under the IPEP, every constituency would be financially empowered to deal with its specific challenges.

According to him, the development of the country under President John Dramani Mahama had only focused on the cities, with the rural communities being neglected.

He said the NPP government would introduce special programmes such as the IPEP to ensure holistic development of the country.

"The NPP is coming out with programmes to ensure the total development of the country and also eradicate poverty," he said.

Fund

Dr Bawumia said the NPP government would set up a 1.6 billion dollar capital expenditure budget to enable them to dispense the one constituency one million dollar fund.

"Every constituency will get one million dollars from the capital expenditure budget.

"We are going to give every constituency S1 million dollars from the capital expenditure budget to spend on priority infrastructural projects as part of efforts to eradicate poverty," he said.

Bad governance

When addressing party supporters at Nakuogu in the Nalerigu-Gambaga Constituency, Nana Akufo Addo said the hardship Ghanaians were going through was as a result of poor governance under President Mahama.

He said the NPP government, when elected in this year's election, would bring development to all Ghanaians through good governance.

He said his administration would build the country from bottom to top, explaining that "that is why we are talking one village one dam and one district one factory".
