We Can't Choose A Leader Who Will Be At The Hospital Always - Kofi Adams

National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has urged the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) leader, Nana Akufo-Addo to look within his party to fish out the person who leaked his health status to Africa Watch Magazine.

“All the accusations Nana Addo claims to have come from the NDC are from his own people . . . Sir John first said that even if Nana Addo is in a wheel chair, he will bring him again to contest the 2016 election, his youth organizer also said he preferred a hunchback to President Mahama . . . we [NDC] didn’t say all these,” Kofi Adam said.

He stressed that “These are coming from his own people who know him deeply. The editor of the African Watch Magazine is Nana Akufo-Addo’s best friend; so it is important for Nana Addo to respond to the newspaper directly and stop blaming the NDC”.

Nana Akufo-Addo, while speaking to the Bolgatanga Traditional Council in the Upper East Region on Sunday, August 28 during his campaign, told the crowd that the NDC and President John Mahama are fabricating lies about him in their quest to retain the presidency in the 7 December polls.

“First, they said I was a drug addict; it didn’t work. They said I was sick; it didn’t work. They said I was too old; it didn’t work. They said I was a hunchback; it didn’t work. They said I was a dwarf; it didn’t work. They said I was in a wheelchair; it didn’t work. They said I am a murderer; it didn’t work," Nana Addo recounted.

But Kofi Adams on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show said his party members have been groomed in such way that, issues of health about a Presidential candidate should not be used as a campaign tool as the NPP used it against the late President Mills.

He insisted that “We won’t repeat what the NPP did against the late President Mills concerning his health; as far as we are concerned, we have never done anything like that, but it is the NPP who have that kind of character because they started campaigning with health, height and shortness of personalities”.

The NDC 2016 Campaign Coordinator refered that it was the NPP who in the year 2000 started campaigning with personaliy height, as such referring to then candidate John Agyekum Kufuor as a gentle giant to their advantage.

Emphasizing that, as the NPP’s Presidential Candidate has height deficiency, the largest opposition party pick offense whenever the issue of height is mentioned.

“ . . but in Ghana’s campaign, the political party which first used height to campaign is NPP. Now, because height is disadvantage to them, they don’t want anybody to mention height issue,” he stressed.

Touching on the health issue, Kofi Adams posited that it should be used for campaign because to him, the health of the political leader is necessary in every aspect of his or her activities.

He averred that as it is important to select healthy players for a tournament to produce good results, it is equally important for Ghanaians to choose a Presidential Candidate who can deliver all the times on his job.

“ . . so the matter of health of a person wanting to lead the country is very necessary. No one can employ the service of a deaf and dumb person to do interpretation, and we cannot choose a leader who instead of carrying out his responsibilities will rather be found at the hospital all the time. So the issue of health is critical in an election,” he pontificated.
