Maurice Ampaw Debunk Stomach Ulcer Rumors; Says It's An NDC Propaganda

Legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw has debunked rumours that he has stomach ulcer and accused the ruling National Democratic Party (NDC) for instigating the propaganda against him.

Maurice Ampaw, a celebrated lawyer declared a one-week hunger strike in protest against the freeing of the ‘Montie 3’. Speaking on ATV's Anopa Bosuo program, he revealed that no doctor has advise him against his hunger strike protest against the president's decision and he has no stomach ulcer; neither is he sick as some people want the public to believe.

"How can I develop stomach ulcer? Me..Maurice Ampaw? It never true. It NDC propaganda. I don't even have malaria and I'm very strong. I can't stand mosquitos because only malaria worry me a lot. And that is the only sickness that disturbs me most of the time" he noted.

President Mahama To Face Future Judicial Woes

The President in a statement on Monday granted remission to the three who were jailed for contempt by the Supreme Court.

“The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has, in consultation with the Council of State and in exercise of his constitutional powers under Article 72 of the Constitution, remitted the remainder of the prison sentence imposed on three persons: Salifu Maase (alias Mugabe), Alistair Nelson and Ako Gunn, who were sentenced to four months’ imprisonment and a fine of GHS10,000.00 each for contempt of court. The remission is effective 26th August, 2016,” the statement said.

Touching on the president's statement, Maurice said president Mahama exercising his powers per article 72 to pardon the three contemnors has rendered the judicial services toothless and ineffective.

He said the president has proved he can't stand pressure. "Nobody has that fear for the judiciary anymore and can talk anyhow and do anything when they feel have people who can pardon them when the law get hold of them. Once he has done this, in future, people who commit offences of that nature and are punished in the same manner, and plead with the president, it would appear that president would be duty-bound to give some consideration to the plea" he said.

According to him, it was this same judiciary that he (president Mahama) is undermining that ruled the election petition in his favor. So if today he can render the same institution toothless with his constitutional power then is up to him. What happens when there's another election petition in future? Did he consider the dangers his decision will bring in the future?

Omane Boamah Must Kill His Pride

Maurice Ampaw then called on Communications Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah to kill his pride and stay humble because it is his tax payer’s money that feeds him.

"All my 15 years as a legal practitioner I have never worked for the government and for that matter don't get paid with the tax payer’s money. I don't get fed by that. I am self-employed, aside that Omane Boamah doesn't come close to me in life. I am older than him and if not for politics, he wouldn't have had the guts to even speak on topics that involve me. You think you a minister so you can disrespect? You sit on radio and run people down, threaten me? He better show some respect" he stated.
