Nanas Campaign Dazes Mahama MP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Nwabiagya North in the Ashanti Region, Benito Owusu-Bio, has noted that the effective campaign message by the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, has destabilized the campaign plans of President John Mahama, compelling him to go on vote buying and empty promises spree.

He said the ‘One District One Factory’ campaign message and the fact that Nana was ready to set up Zongo Development and Coastal Development Funds when elected president, had raised the stakes so high that President Mahama, in a desperate move, had decided  to mop up in the regions that Nana Akufo-Addo had already visited. The intention, the MP said, is to counteract Nana’s well-accepted message with gifts and wild promises intended to induce voters to vote for him, even when it is clear that majority of Ghanaians are discontent with his government.

Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, who was speaking to DAILY GUIDE, said President Mahama is now shadow-boxing Akufo-Addo because the former’s popularity is soaring with his good policies.

“Our flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, goes to the Western Region and promises to divide the region to facilitate development and also fix the bad roads in the northern parts of the region, which the government has conveniently neglected. Then a day after that President Mahama moves to the same region immediately after launching his campaign in Cape Coast to debunk what Nana Akufo-Addo had told the people of the region,” Mr Owusu-Bio noted, adding that the president had just gone to the Northern Region to mop up again because Nana Akufo-Addo was there to foster unity between the Andanis and the Abudus. He had also assured the Andani gate that he would not dabble in their chieftaincy matters when elected president.

“This is a president who does not have any message for the electorate following his abysmal performance in government,” the   Atwima Nwabiagya MP observed, pointing out that “anytime Nana Akufo-Addo coughs President Mahama catches cold.”

The MP commended Nana Akufo-Addo for his proposed policy of setting up an office of special prosecutor to deal with cases of corruption.

He also commended him for not embarking on flamboyant campaigning but rather going to the people as well as identifiable groups to drum home his message and solicit for their support.

“I want all our polling station as well as constituency executives to adopt the door-to-door campaign strategy and educate vulnerable groups on the need to vote for the NPP on December 7 and not the NDC,” he urged.
