Media Must Gag Politicians Seeking To Create Chaos With Montie Saga- Anyani Boadum

For a while, politicians have seized the opportunity to discordantly divide opinions over whether President Mahama’s decision to remit the remaining prison sentence imposed on three persons: Salifu Maase (alias Mugabe), Alistair Nelson and Ako Gunn was  a step in the right direction.

The political twist to the matter is getting uglier and to nip it in the bud, the Presiding Bishop of Jesus Generation Ministries, Rt Rev. Dr Anyani Boadum, has charged media practitioners not to offer politicians platforms to set a chaotic agenda.

The media must be used as a tool for national development…National issues should be accorded the seriousness it deserves and the media must lift up their game and set an agenda that would benefit the nation. A lot of comedies are going on”, he observed.

Rev. Anyani Boadum stated in an interview on Okay FM that the case must be dealt with holistically without attaching political strings to it.

In addressing the issue, Rev. Boadum noted that “it was reckless and needless” for the trio to attack the Supreme Court on their show but was quick to add that the damage has already been caused and it is now the duty of media practitioners “not allow politicians to take the front in the matter”.

He observed that should the matter take politically shape, it would blind us all from learning lessons from the Montie 3 saga.

Before President Mahama decided to remit the remaining prison sentence imposed on three persons, some political activist had predicted that it would affect him badly in the 2016 elections.

Before the president took the initiative to free them, some people had said on the media that he would lose the elections should he do it.

If that is what they believe in, then he should be allowed to rock his own political boat. No one should feel peeved at his decision to free the three”, he advised.

Following recommendations by the Council of State, His excellency President John Mahama, in accordance with his constitutional powers under Article 72 of the Constitution, remitted the remaining prison sentence imposed on the Montie trio who were sentenced to 4 months imprisonment and a fine of GHȻ10,000.00 each for contempt of court.
