'Montie 3' Would Have Themselves To Blame If . . . - NDC Vice Chairman

National Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC], Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has stated that one would definitely be reformed after being in prison custody for a month.

“One cannot be in prison custody for a month and not change from the style of life that led him/her there,” he stressed.

Based on his comments concerning the decision of President Mahama in consultation with the Council of State to remit the sentences of the ‘Montie 3’, he noted “they would have themselves to blame should they come out of prison and yet behave in the manner that led to their four months imprisonment and a fine of GHȻ10,000.00 each for contempt of court.”

Speaking on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ programme, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo pointed out that this nation has lost respect for the elderly due to politics, claiming "we are practicing democratic governance, when we are not the only state practicing this form of government."

He urged citizens to be focused as they use the Montie Trio saga as learning process in their daily lives.

President John Mahama in consultation with the Council of State and in exercise of his constitutional powers under Article 72 of the Constitution remitted the remaining prison sentence imposed on three persons: Salifu Maase (alias Mugabe), Alistair Nelson and Ako Gunn who were sentenced to four months imprisonment and a fine of GHȻ10,000.00 each for contempt of court. The remission is effective 26th August 2016.

The three were sentenced on 27th July 2016 and have served part of the prison sentences imposed on them.
