'This is Divisive...It is From NDC Headquarters Not Council Of State'!

A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the decision to free the ‘Montie 3’ was from the headquarters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and not the Council of State.

Henry Nana Boakye strongly believes the Council of State can never give such a recommendation; adding the decision was conceived at the headquarters of the ruling party before the petition was even forwarded to the Council of State.

His remark follows the remission of sentence of the Montie 3 who are currently serving a four month jail term.

The three were handed down a four-month jail term with a GHȻ10,000.00 fine for each after they were convicted of criminal contempt on their own plea.

On Monday, President John Dramani Mahama, in consultation with the Council of State, decided to remit the sentence of the Montie trio namely: Salifu Maase (alias Mugabe), Alistair Nelson and Ako Gunn; a decision which seems to have taken many legal pundits by surprise.

Whiles some believe the president has rubbished the judiciary in a most unacceptable manner by setting a dangerous precedence with a decision founded on partisan grounds, others have slammed those against the decision accusing them of being nation wreckers.

Speaking to the issue during a panel discussion on Peace FM morning show "Kokrokoo", Nana B, as the NPP activist is affectionately called, described President Mahama’s action to free the Montie 3 as "divisive" saying "it has created division in the country."

"I didn’t believe it initially. I don’t think the Council of State will give such recommendation. This decision was prepared from the National Headquarters of the NDC. It can never be the Council of State. It is the President and his NDC. You are the President of a nation but now, you have turned into an NDC President,” Nana B fumed.
