Paa Kwasi Nduom, presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party, has added his voice to the numerous calls from well-meaning Ghanaians on President Mahama to desist from using tax payers to campaign for votes.

Dr Nduom says the sudden donation of outboard motors, sewing machines, fertilizers, head pans, vehicles and other freebies by President Mahama, his wife and members of his party is a clear “daylight robbery of the government’s treasury for partisan political benefits.”

President Mahama, after the campaign launch in Cape Coast, has embarked on nationwide campaign with the sharing freebies to the electorate.

Dr Nduom, in post on his facebook wall, said it was very unfortunate for President Mahama to use monies that could have been channeled into paying debts owed ECG, nurses and teachers into buying votes.

“How many of the more than one million fishermen, millions of hairdressers and farmers can get some of these "gifts"? Reminds me of the tactics of the illegal micro-finance schemes - show the people a handful of people whose deposits were doubled and others will be deceived into parting with their hard earned monies. And is this what is at play here? Is President Mahama Father Christmas? Is this the Christmas season for gift giving?” he queried.

He cautioned that it would have been appropriate if President Mahama had focused on addressing serious issues confronting the country instead of engaging in a desperate move to remain in power.

“What the people need are the things that last - lower taxes, continuous, uninterrupted electricity, good drinking water, good and affordable compulsory education, good health and permanent jobs. If President Mahama campaigned on bringing these to the people during his tenure as President, how could I complain? The fact that he can't do this and has resorted to ‘gift-giving’ must tell Ghanaians to beware and not waste their votes on those who have disappointed them and now are desperately trying to buy their votes,” he wrote.
