Give Me A Second Term, Ignore NPP Propaganda... - Prez Mahama

President Mahama has asked Ghanaians to ignore the propaganda by the New Patriotic (NPP) seeking to downplay the importance of the massive infrastructure projects being put up by his administration.

Speaking at the Kokompeh in the Western Region, President Mahama who is also the NDC flag bearer said the NPP is a political party that has a history of not appreciating legacy projects.

He told the electorates to reject the NPP in the upcoming polls and retain him for him to continue with his good works he started in his first term.

When Dr Kwame Nkrumah built the Akosombo dam, the UP tradition, now the NPP said it was just a flamboyant project but today the dam is still providing major parts of the country with electricity. The same people who ousted Nkrumah because they said he was embezzling state funds and undertaking unnecessary projects have metamorphosed to become the NPP.

“In Cape Coast, our founder, Jerry John Rawlings advised us to beware of them because they’ve been in politics for a long time,” he told the crowd.

The President is therefore urging the electorates to give him another term to continue the good works started by the NDC.

“They only change their names but do not change their character. It is these same people who say development is not edible. They say the roads, hospitals are not edible and that my government is only incurring huge debts and embezzling state funds claiming we have undertaken projects. They also say Ghanaians rather need money in their pockets, they sung this same song during Nkrumah’s time. Today they are at it again.”

The President explained that though “this clinic we have built for you is not edible I can assure you, it will save many lives here.” He was speaking at the inauguration of a clinic at Kokompe in Takoradi as part of his campaign tour of the Western Region,
President John Mahama who is seeking another term in office began a four day campaign tour of the Western Region on Tuesday after the launch of the party’s campaign in Cape Coast last Sunday.

The NPP has severally criticized the ruling government of attempting to hoodwink the public to believe that it had carried out massive investments in projects, since the reality pointed to the contrary.
The party’s running mate Dr Bawumia said the NDC had increased Ghana’s debt in seven years by GH¢90 billion — from GH¢9.5 billion at the end of 2009 to some GH¢99 billion currently, an equivalent of some $37 billion at the time of borrowing.

“First, if you sum the cost of all the loan-financed projects listed in the Green Book (even including those with artistic impressions), it is less than $7 billion. Therefore, given the resources at its disposal, one should expect at least four times the quantum of investment that the NDC claims to have undertaken.

The NPP also claims that the projects have been over priced as a result of the single source procurement method which has become the procurement method of choice for this government. They also claims that infrastructural investment is not supposed to be for its own sake but to increase productivity and production in the economy. The proof of the pudding, as they say, is in the eating.

And that if indeed if government is undertaken massive and unprecedented infrastructural investment, then why is the economy collapsing?

These and more have been the position of the party on the massive infrastructure projects being embarked upon by the Mahama administration
