NPP Vows To Resist John Jinapors Electoral Plot At Yapei/Kusawgu

The Electoral Commission is expected to allocate a specific period for voters to transfer their votes from one constituency to another in the coming days as part of its preparation towards the 2016 general elections.

According to a statement signed by Amadu Zakaria, the NPP Secretary for the Yapei/Kusawgu constituency, the party has picked intelligence reports that the NDC candidate is planning to bus people to the constituency during the vote transfer period in order to facilitate his bid of becoming the MP for the area.

Amadu Zakaria disclosed that the people, who would be used to carry out this plan, would be coming from areas like Techiman, Babato, Kintampo and Sunyani, all in the neighboring Brong Ahafo Region.

“Further checks made by NPP party in the constituency proved that, other people would be bused from Kumasi and Accra to help prosecute this grand agenda of usurping the views of the people in Central Gonja who are wailing for change,” the statement added.

The statement clarified that it is not against people transferring their votes to a constituency of their choice but cautioned that such moves must be within the guidelines of the EC.

“At this point, we wish to appeal to the Security Agencies who are directly responsible for the maintenance of law and order to be on a day and night alert to prevent these would-be perpetrators of crime from entering and bringing instability in our peaceful constituency. Furthermore, we want to warn with measurable amount of seriousness the District Electoral Commission Officer to tread cautiously in effecting any transfer to the constituency. The requisite requirements encapsulated in our electoral laws must be strictly adhered to,” the statement cautioned.

While accusing John Jinapor of inciting violence during the just limited voters’ registration exercise, Mr Zakaria said that as advocates of democracy, the NPP would do anything to preserve the relative peace in the area, and not allow any self-centered politician seeking his parochial interest to destroy it.

“We wish to reiterate our concerns that, the specific authorities with various responsibilities should apply the rules of the game. Ladies and gentlemen of the media, if they should fail or sleep over their responsibilities we as a party will resort to the use of all legal means to prevent these people from illegally transferring their votes to our constituency with the main aim of distorting our votes and setting us back in a reverse gear,” the statement warned.
