President John Mahama has described as unfortunate, insults hurled at Chiefs and Traditional leaders for acknowledging developments in their communities.

The President who was addressing separate durbars in the Daboase-Mophor area as part of his campaign tour said just as Chiefs place before political leaders their problems, its just fair for them to show appreciation if he as President fulfils any promise made.

The President also raised concern about publications by some pro-opposition media houses, deliberately twisted to pitch the public against the traditional leaders.

Mr Mahama’s comment received a spontaneous applause from the audience who praised him for some major roads that have enhanced the movement of goods and services.

At Daboase, the President was accompanied by the deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Isaac Adjei Mensah, who is also the MP for the area, Spokesperson of the NDC Campaign Team, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, the Western regional Minister and party executives.

“In 2012 when I went round the region campaigning, I realized the poor road network in the region. I made some pledges and I am happy to say that many of them have been fulfilled. The challenge is huge and gradually we are building the roads. Those who don’t have their yet should be patient. Our commitment is solid and we shall surely deliver” …the President noted.

He also used the occasion to preach for a peaceful campaign. The President who is confident of a one touch victory however said he is relying on God to see Ghana through and ordain the right leader.

In a brief remark, the Chief of the area, thanked President Mahama for the ongoing infrastructure projects in the area. He made reference to key road networks that have been completed. These include Daboase to Ateeku, Dompem No.1 to Anto, Dominase to Antobiase among other trunck and feeder roads.

“Because of past experiences, we took your promise for granted. But you proved to be different from previous governments. For many years in the lives of people in this area, we also travelled on tarred roads. We trust you and our wish is for your retention as President for another term to continue your good work:

At Mpohor, President Mahama first paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of the area, Osabarima Kwaw Entsei II before addressing a durbar.

Hundreds of party supporters lined up on the streets and cheered the President as he walked with the Omanhene to the durbar grounds.

The Chief of the area appealed for the extension of road projects to other communities in the area.

In his remarks, the President assured them the contract will soon be awarded for specific projects. He also spoke about the one district-one hospital policy and promised to upgrade the Mpohor Health Center into a Polyclinic if he is endorsed for a second term in office.

President Mahama also briefed the people about the massive projects in the region.

“From Sefwi through Elubo through Agona to Takoradi, we have built excellent roads. We are spending over one billion dollars on cocoa roads and other projects under the enhanced road programme. We know there is more work to be done and I can assure you of my commitment.”

He also advised the youth to take advantage of opportunities being created. The President observed that many young people will be offered skilled training with startup capital to set up their own businesses.

“You must learn a skill as a welder, mason, tractor operator, welder, a plumber or any other profession so you can exploit the opportunities. We have many young men who want to go into farming and we have a special package including free seedlings for those who want to go into cocoa”
