Afokos Behaviour Wont Affect NPP Esseku

The actions and inactions of the suspended National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Paul Afoko, will not in any way affect the chances of the main opposition party in this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections, a former chairman of the NPP, Mr Harona Esseku, has said.

Mr Afoko, whose law suit challenging his suspension was thrown out by an Accra Human Rights court on Monday, 15 August, has said he will file an appeal against the decision. He said in a statement that he disagreed with the ruling.

“Consequently, lawyers for Mr Afoko will carefully study the judgment and launch an appeal against the decision at the appropriate time.”

But speaking on Inside Politics on Class 91.3 FM hosted by Moro Awudu, Mr Esseku said: “My position on the matter is that Afoko’s departure will not do anything bad or anything which is not good to our party. He doesn’t have that stature [to harm the party]. …The way he treated and behaved towards us as Council of Elders [was not the best].”

He added: “I believe every case involving Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong should have ended there. Even the suspension was indefinite, it wasn’t said it is definite…but right now I don’t see how Afoko’s behaviour towards us [can affect us].”
