Supporters of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) and the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in Bunkpurugu have clashed over a party pavilion in the Bunkpurugu district of the Northern Region.
Information available to the paper has it that the current NDC parliamentary candidate of the area, Anthony Gingong ordered the removal of the NPP pavilion in the area because the land on which the pavilion is sited, was said to be the property of his family.
The family of the NDC candidate was said to have been divided over the issue because some of them who were NPP loyalists did not agree to the removal of the NPP pavilion.
Investigations conducted by DAILY GUIDE revealed that the piece of land where the NPP pavilion is located was given to the party by a brother of the NDC parliamentary candidate in 2012.
The Bunkpurugu Constituency Chairman of the NPP, Seidu Dokin who narrated the incident to DAILY GUIDE said some of the family members really backed the removal order because, according to them, the land belongs to the NDC parliamentary candidate’s grandfather.
Mr Dokin revealed that an elder brother of the NDC parliamentary candidate called Kwame, who is a member of NPP, gave out the land to the party since 2012 so they find it intriguing that all of a sudden family members were asking for the removal of the pavilion.
“When we contacted Kwame he told us that his brothers were putting pressure on him to let us remove the pavilion.”
Seidu indicated that they have located a space somewhere and that they would move to the new site as soon as possible but was quick to add that it would cost the party transferring the pavilion to the new site.
The NDC constituency chairman, when contacted, denied the allegation.
According to him, the NDC has nothing to do with the matter and that it was between the family and the NPP.
“Ginjong does not own the land so how can he order the removal of the pavilion, it’s never true. I think they have their personal issues but it has nothing to do with the NDC candidate because we spoke with him and he has nothing to do with it.”
