Im Sure Ex-Prez Rawlings Was Worried About Vanderpuye's Comment - Sammy Awuku

Sammy Awuku has expressed disgust over comments made by the Sports Minister, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, during the ruling National Democratic Congress' (NDC) campaign launch over the weekend.

Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye on Sunday mounted the podium to address NDC faithfuls gathered at the Cape Coast Stadium and in his submission, took a swipe at some personalities pursuing the Presidential throne.

He opined that the Presidency is not a place for people who wear glasses or short people.

Following his comments, there have been counter arguments about Nii Lantey's utterances as critics; particularly members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) believed the Sports Minister's comments were an affront to their candidate.

According to opposition members, President John Mahama has spoken vehemently against the politics of insults and so expected him to bring the Sports Minister to order when he also took his turn to address the charged NDC folks.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Sammy Awuku was worried the President didn't find such comments offensive and so failed to address it.

To him, President Mahama's silence over Nii Lantey's comments is questionable.

“For Nii Lantey Vanderpuye and the comment he made, I wasn’t surprised. While the President was talking about people winning gold medals in insults I felt that the Olympic games was being played at the Cape Coast Stadium, while he sat there and listened. Because for Nii Lantey to say the Presidency is not for short people and those who were glasses, I’m sure former President Rawlings himself was worried."
