The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has launched its Presidential Policy Teams (PPTs) that will support the government of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, the party’s flagbearer if elected as president of Ghana in the December general elections.
According to Dr. Nduom, who launched the PPTs at the party’s head office in Accra yesterday, “The foundation for our PPT is our policy document which was officially launched during our Convention on Saturday, July 16, 2016.”
He said the 11 Presidential Policy Teams had been formed to concentrate on important agenda items that also represent priority areas for a future PPP administration.
He disclosed that they are: Constitutional Reforms and Good Governance, Public Sector Reforms, Preventable Diseases, Compulsory and Universal Education, Agriculture and Food Security, Financing Energy, Economic Infrastructure, Sports, Domestic Enterprise Development, Women’s Enterprise Development and Technology.
He explained that the teams would be convened by their respective leaders to engage in research, analysis and detailed policy preparation for the consideration of the National Committee of the PPP prior to the December 7, 2016 elections.
“Their main purpose will be to recommend how a PPP administration should implement our policies, including funding and human resources considerations,” adding that “members of the PPTs will speak for the presidential candidate and the party in their areas of expertise.”
“Overall, the National Policy Advisor, Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, will serve as the convener for the PPT,” he said.
According to him, “The PPT is another way we are showing to Ghanaians our unique brand of politics which focuses on what we can do to change Ghana for the better.”
He indicated that “when Ghanaians get to meet the PPT members and experience their competence, they will agree with us wholeheartedly about the fact that this party, PPP has qualified and experienced men and women we will offer as part of an inclusive team to take charge of Ghana in 2017 and make it a better nation for all its citizens.”
Criticism
He lambasted the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the delay in coming out with a clear policy document on how to steer the affairs of the state when given the nod in the December 7.
“Unlike other political parties such as the NDC and NPP, we have already made public our policy document that clearly sets out our reform agenda and job creation strategy,” he said.
He said “while others are busy launching campaigns and running around the country making promises, they know very well they cannot keep. The PPP is strategizing and doing research on what to do when in power to make our country great and strong with a prosperous people.”
