I Would've Released Montie Trio If . . . -NDC NEC Member

Deputy Director of Communications of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Boahen has claimed he would have used his powers per Article (72) of the 1992 constitution to get the Montie trio out of prison, if he was President John Dramani Mahma.

“I won’t continue to keep the Montie trio in custody if I were the President of this land. I would use the powers given me by the law of the State to get them out. Some members of the opposition parties were pardoned out of prison even though their crime caused were much harm than that of the Montie 3,” he said.

According to him all persons speaking against the release of the convicts are the ones preventing the President from taking the right decision on the matter.

They have developed such a strategy against the President because they are interested in occupying his position,” he added.

But Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa South, Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum also a panelist on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ show rubbished his statement, saying “I don’t see the link between the Montie 3 and the removal of Mahama from government or his political career. This analysis is false and I still stand by my view to keep the Montie trio in prison until the sentence given them by the Supreme Court is well served.”

The Supreme Court (SC) on the 27th of July, 2016, sentenced radio show host; Salifu Maase popularly known as ‘Mugabe’ and two other panelists on his ‘Pampaso’ show; Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako- Gunn to four months imprisonment.

The three were convicted of contempt by the Supreme Court and fined GHC 10,000 each.

Directors for the Network Broadcasting Company, operators of Montie FM as well as the owner of the frequency, Harry Zakour were also fined GHC 30,000.
