NPP Is Closely "Watching" Police Officers Being Used By The NDC Karbo Warns

A Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Abayifa Karbo has directed a stern warning at the Ghana Police service (GPS).

He accused the service of ‘partisan operations’ aimed to favour the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him – the NDC is deliberately roping in the police to investigate NPP’s 2016 election running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia after he was alleged to have been verified by some Electoral Commission officers in his house – an offence which is unlawful.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has started investigating Dr Bawumia for flouting the electoral laws during the voters’ register exhibition exercise.

The NDC alleged that Dr Bawumia induced two electoral officers at Kperiga Presby JHS ‘A’ polling station in the Walewale constituency of the Northern Region with a sum of Ghc 10,000, for him to be verified in his home.

Karbo who is also a special aide to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has denied strongly that his boss attempted to bribe the EC officials.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie', Anthony Abayifa Karbo wonders why the alleged case against Dr Bawumia has been referred to Accra for investigation – he sense foulplay.

“Was the report made in Accra? These are the issues we don’t understand, and when we raise that, they say don’t politicize it, why won’t we politicize it? Politicians are involved in making a report against their political opponent because they are desperate,” he said.

“ . . And the police is falling for that by getting involved. So what investigation is the police going to do after the EC’s investigation has said the person at the centre of the issue has not done anything wrong but rather their officers. So what is the job of the police in this matter if not the NDC's calculated attempt to still draw Dr Bawumia’s name into the mud using the Ghana police,” he added.

He however warned that – “Don’t forget Dr. Bawumia will become the Chairman of the Ghana Police Council in 2017. So those police officers who are been used, we are watching them. By His grace Dr. Bawumia will be the Chairman of their Council and we are telling those police officers who are gifting themselves to be involved into this politics, we are watching.”
