NDC Organizer Beats Police Officer In Public

The Takoradi Constituency Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Michael Quarshie, is undergoing investigations by the Western Regional Police Command for allegedly assaulting a Police Officer in public.

Quarshie together with two other persons, without any provocation, allegedly pounced on Police Constable Bawa Musah of the Visibility Department of the Takoradi Police Command around the Takoradi Market Circle and beat him up mercilessly in the full glare of the public.

Quarshie and his friends have since been granted bail as investigations continue.

The Takoradi District Police Commander, Superintendent Peter Ofori Donkor, who confirmed the story to The New Crusading GUIDE, said the Regional Crime Officer has called for the docket for further investigations.

This is the third time Quarshie is on record to have assaulted a Police officer in public, Police sources say.

According to an Eyewitness, Kofi Abakah, the incident which happened at about 7:pm sometime in June this year, occurred at the Port Quarters around the Takoradi Market Circle.

He said Quarshie was trying to use his salon vehicle to evacuate another broken down salon vehicle with registration number WR 207 X off the road without using the appropriate measures.

“He wasn’t using rope or any device to tie to his car to evacuate the broken down vehicle. He was only using the strength of his car to push the defected vehicle from the road. It was bumper-to-bumper.

“As a result, many road users became alarmed so we all started calling the police officer who was standing-by on duty at the UBA bank to arrest him.

“ Immediately the police officer confronted him, he came out of the vehicle together with one other guy and one other person from the defected vehicle, pounced on the officer and started beating him”, Abakah narrated.

He said the suspects, upon realizing that a police patrol vehicle was approaching the scene, quickly absconded.

According to Abakah, after the incident, Constable Musah complained of his missing wallet containing GHC770.00, his barge of authority, Police cap, and a destroyed Samsung tablet.

“Portions of his uniform also got torn in the process”, he said.

The suspects were later identified and hauled to the Takoradi Central Police Station.

However, the case has taken an interesting twist as police sources accuse the Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Rueben Asiwoko, for deliberately delaying the investigations, two months after the incident.

They claim the crime officer has been influenced by the Deputy Western Regional Minister, Mr. Alfred Ekow Djan, to discontinue the case.

Interestingly, when The New Crusading GUIDE contacted Superintendent Asiwoko to ascertain whether he has been influenced by the Deputy Western Regional Minister to discontinue the case, he gave a curious response as he could neither deny nor confirm the allegation against him.

“My brother, I won’t speak to you”, he said, repeating the same words after every question posed to him.

Even when this reporter pushed further for the crime officer to at least, either deny or confirm the allegation against him, he maintained: “I said I won’t speak on this matter. There’s nothing you can say to push me to divulge any information.

Meanwhile, the police say, the missing money and items of Constable Musah, have still not been refunded to him.

Constable Musah, however, declined making any comment on the incident when this paper contacted him.
